Rich in history...

Our building at 515 N. Clay Street is part of the rich history of Salisbury, North Carolina. In our parking lot you can see remnants of the East Franklin Street railroad spur, an old rail line that is mostly buried in this neighborhood. Additionally, the old Diamond Cotton Mills building still stands where remains of the railroad can be seen. Running parallel to the street is the track that served the Diamond Mills (someone is currently refurbishing this sprawling set of buildings!) and continued across the road, through the property at Rowan Canning Company, and on to the historic Kesler Mill (now demolished). The track is encased in the asphalt where the spur crossed the street and passed along the Rowan Canning Company building that existed in 1922.
Our lot was the site of the Rowan Canning Company from 1916 to 1922. There were several deed transfers, finally building our existing building in 1940. The Rowan-Salisbury School system owned the buildings from 1953 until 2018 when we were able to purchase the property. We are honored to run the business we love out of a building that has a story, much like many of our furniture pieces.

At DSR Mid Century Furniture we do all the work for you to place gorgeous, authentic MCM furniture in your home to last another 50+ years if you desire. MEET DAVID & DARBY
We are a husband and wife team that started this business 13 years ago in the basement of our MCM home. David's love for high end mid century furniture, most especially Danish, became a passion, and ultimately a business. We hunt and gather these pieces for you, spend countless hours removing the life dirt, sanding and returning these pieces back to their original state.
We list all of our finished pieces on our IG at @dsrmidcenturyfurniture and FB at DSR Vintage Furniture. We sell many pieces online and even sell requested pieces without ever listing them as we keep a wish list for our customers.

Where do you find your furniture? This is a huge part of our process, and honestly it is getting harder and harder as so many of the MCM pieces have been found over the last several years. Gone are the days of the fantastic piece on the side of the road or that yard sale item for $1. David spends 2 to 3 hours every morning searching all over the United States to find these items, contacting sellers to make sure our idea of "in good shape" are similar (BELIEVE US..."in good shape" varies SIGNIFICANTLY person to person), then arranging shipping of the pieces to DSR so the work can begin.

Do you refinish or reupholster outside furniture? Not at this time. David is our only professional restoration specialist so all of his time and attention has to go towards the pieces for the shop.
-
Do you offer returns? We do not offer returns or refunds. These are authentic pieces of furniture from the 1950’s, 60’ and 70’s, they are survivors, and unique all in one. David restores these amazing pieces to give you another 50+ years with them if desired. However, we are not a box store, and these are not mass-produced items anymore, they can't just be replaced with a new one. We do everything we can to make sure these pieces are in excellent working order when you purchase them. We appreciate you understanding our policy and supporting small businesses.

Why are you only open 4 hours a week?David and I are the only two people that run this business. DSR is David's full time job, it is my part time job as I have an outside career. David needs the shop all week to work on the pieces for the shop, he can't have traffic going in and out as he uses all kinds of technique sensitive products, additionally we sell a lot online. After David has worked in the shop all week we spend Saturday mornings cleaning and rearranging so we can open for 4 hours. We realize this small window of time may not work for everyone which is why we offer as many pictures as you like, videos or Facetime calls. We are here to help, and we will not ever hide anything from you when it comes to MCM pieces we are selling in our shop.

Do you reupholster over old foam or stuffing?Never, ever, ever!! Our upholstery is new from the inside out. With our upholstery you will have all new foam, strapping and fabric. We use top quality Bernhardt fabric remnants that come straight from the company. Additionally, while the pieces are taken apart any hardware that needs restoring or replacing is done so at this time. Rest assured, your upholstered pieces from DSR will not have weird lumps and bumps after 6 months of use!!

Can I sell you my furniture or consign with you?We get this question all the time. As much as we would love to buy your cool MCM pieces, at the end of the day we are a small business, meaning we can't pay retail prices and keep a roof over our shop. This in no way means your piece is not worth $1,000,000,000.00 as thought, it simply means we can't pay that for a 50+ year old piece, pick it up or ship it, clean it, restore it and sell it for $1,000,000,100.00... we would be out of business before the sun sets that day.
